Possession Island, Crozet February 2013

Here are a few photos from my last subantarctic adventure...sorry it took so long!

Sunrise over the Indian Ocean, 2 days into the journey

Yellow nosed albatross flying alongside the boat
One of the first wandering albatrosses, as we approach Crozet
Waiting for birds on a calm day!

White chinned petrel

Another wandering
The boat had to make an emergency detour as we needed to collect some people from a french military boat.  But the military boat went off chasing Korean pirates so we went chasing both of them.  The pirates are on the left!

Post pirate chase, exchanging personnel and food

First day on Crozet!  Bright sunshine, twenty something degrees. Last time I was here about the same time last year it was snowing and about zero! You can just see the boat sailing off in the left hand corner.  We stayed here on base for less than 24 hours before heading off to the cabin on the other side of the island.

The bluest sky ever.  This is the view from the albatross colony looking towards the largest penguin colony on the island
