Iguazu

Iguazu falls are on the border of Brazil and Argentina and are the second biggest waterfall in the world (I think). The Argentine side consists of 7 hours of trails which take you right up to the falls and the effects is incredible. The sheer volume of water is incomprehensible and it falls like an avalanche. 70% of the water in the falls is from rain and in the drought of 2006 the whole falls dried up. Luckily this year has been wet but when I saw the falls they were at their driest (as it is late summer here). The Brazilian side gives a panoramic view of the Argentine waterfalls but is less spectacular and for some reason Brazil is about 10 degrees hotter and has about 100% humidity. Needless to say I returned quickly to Argentina!

Photos from the Argentine side. Sadly all the best bits were very wet from the spray so there are no photos...

Photos from the Brazilian side

The forests around the falls are home to the most amazing array of wildlife but as I quickly learnt the falls are busy like tesco on chirstmas eve and seeing wildlife is as likely as seeing a group of badgers on oxford street. So I cheated and went to the bird rescue centre for most of the animal photos!! The excpetion is the butterflys who forms huge groups and are so abundant that at one point I was walking with three different species sitting on my toes!!
